Rotary Club again gives dictionaries to third graders, thesauri to fifth graders

Every year, the Rotary Club of Ossining gives a dictionary to each third grader in Ossining’s public and parochial schools and a thesaurus to every fifth grader.

This year, one of the fifth graders asked what Rotary was. Our Past President, Howard Penn, explained that we were a service organization that does local projects like giving out dictionaries and also an international organization working to eradicate polio. To our great delight, one of the children asked “What is polio?” Once a dread killer known and feared by all Americans, this disease has been eliminated from the United States and all but two countries in the world.
